The society started the year with focus on rural tourism in line with the certificate course of IGNOU. SSI has run a certificate course with 10 students.

Due to the mass scale of disaster in the kedar valley it was decided that IGNOU should take steps to help the victims of kedar valley. In the process contacts were established with individual donors and Shyam Telecom Ltd. of New Delhi. Shyam group willinglyagreed to provide support for the disaster affected community. Shyam group donated tents, tarpaulins, rice, dal, milk powder, tea sugar, biscuits, led torch, batteries, match box, candles, cloths, slippers, mugs, umbrellas, buckets, ORS packs and salt etc. The volunteers of SSI also collected essential items locally from the public.

SSI created a team of volunteers and paid support staff to take this forward. The entire truck load was further repacked into smaller survival kits of, 5kg rice,2kg dal, a pack of milk, tea, salt and other essential item and was transported to village Mayali. The team was led by Shri G. C. Dangwal and Shri Ravi Kala. The relief material was loaded into smaller trucks and transport vehicles.

A small event was organised for the flag off of the material. The S.D. M. of kotdwara Mr. Rana flagged off the convey. The effort was widely covered by the local newspapers. The team had a tough time in reaching the desired location and had many narrow escapes during the journey. After distributing some of the material and seeing the mismanaged situation at Mayali the distribution work was suspended and a godown was rented locally where the material was stocked. There after first the list of the effected people was created with the help of local resources(teachers). And material was distributed to the shortlisted people by invitation on batch basis, over a period of time. The local peoples representatives namely the Pardhans, Block Pramukh and Thesildar form the local administration were actively involved.

Also tie up was initiated with Zee Himgiri University for NTT course. A team of the university also visited the premises and approved the local. An advance deposit was also paid to them.
